About Us
Our Story
We are a small kennel located at the heart of "pheasant country" in southeast South Dakota. At Al's Ranch Retrievers we strive to produce top quality bird dogs that live for the hunt.
"The idea of Al's Ranch Retrievers started for me early on when I really got involved in the family hunting lodge where we constantly are conditioning dogs in the off-season and working with them during season. From there I was immediately hooked watching the dogs work and doing what they love. In addition to improving the breed, we breed with the intention of improving the lives of those in our community. Early neurological stimulation, early scent introduction, and puppy culture are the main components of our program, which makes it easier for all of our puppies to succeed in their new homes and lives. Our puppies have been placed in hunt test, sports, hunting, and companion homes and we carefully place each pup with the right fit.
Here at Al's Ranch Retrievers, we understand that your dog is an important part in your hunting adventures as well as your family, so please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
Guiding
As a dog trainer it is very critical that my dogs get plenty of opportunities to get on birds, so it is very helpful that I guide at A1 Al's Pheasant Ranch, where the dogs will get multiple chances at birds.
A1 Al's is Located only a mile from Als Ranch Retrievers which is beneficial for training purposes, so they will have plenty of time in the field. Through the lodge, dogs will have the opportunity at easily 2,000 birds throughout the season and plenty of one-on-one time to perfect their skills.
As a full time guide, we do not take in trainees after September 1st to ensure your dog gets the most out of its training.

These kennels are supper easy to clean and to store and come in a variety of sizes and colors. Ruff Land also makes dog bowls, and water holes to keep your dog hydrated while out.
